Scroll to the bottom of the post to see the winners of yesterday’s drawing!

Today we are talking about a favorite go-to holiday book. Mine is a cook book of sorts. It’s actually a recipe album that my mom gave me about 10 years ago. I’ve filled it with family favorites, recipes from my friends and things that I want to try. Everyone in the house knows were to look for it.

My recipe for the day is Shortbread. I have always loved shortbread. It’s such a simple butter cookie and one that is easy to make.

Today’s featured bloggers are…..

Lissa Alexander from ModaLissa

Day 3 Winners

Wow, what an overwhelming response we have had to this blog hop. Thank you so much for participating!

The winners for Day 3 (my day) are:

Linda T:
A family tradition of ours is to always give my Dad a tin of mixed nuts (he’s diabetic and doesn’t get all the sweets that the rest of us do). Some years he gets 4 or 5 tins. Enjoy your giveaway!

Joan:
As our family has grown up, married and started their own families, our Christmas celebration is on Christmas Eve so they can spend Christmas Day with their in-laws. It is my favorite tradition. We have Swedish meatballs for dinner, open gifts and play games. The last couple of years the Grandchildren started to arrive so there are less games played but plenty of entertainment.

Lina:
We still leave out chocolate chip cookies and milk for Santa, and my youngest child is 26!

Patty:
A no bake cookie option is usually a timesaver. Thank you. I like the topper a lot. It seems like it would be possible to actually finish this one. Listening to my dad read the Christmas story before we opened presents is my favorite Christmas memory.

Joyce S.:
Thanks for sharing your pattern and cookie recipe. I’m excited to try both. And my favorite holiday tradition is decorating the Christmas tree.

Sharon S.:
I think my favorite holiday tradition is going to look at all the beautiful Christmas lights on Christmas Eve. Love the cute little table topper!

If you missed commenting on one of the blogs during the week, you still have time to go back and comment. To be included in the grand prize drawing, you must have a comment on each blog each day.

laura:
Love the block. I like the blocks that appear to have movement like this one. Excellent color choice. Thank you for the opportunity.

Pattern winners are:

Gwen:
What a wonderful star block, it is a definite to do. I just love the block and the color selection.

Becky:
Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful block with us!!! Love it:) Thanks too for the extra information to make the Star Dance topper! Looking forward to “losing myself” in 100 blocks Vol. 2. Again, thank you!

Julie in WA:
I love the block. It is refreshing to see a block made in more traditional fabrics! The block and the fabrics you used look like they were meant to be together, in an historical kind of way…

Rosie is wondering if we will get snow out of the rain that’s coming…..

Thanks for all of the great stories about how you started quilting – I loved reading all of them.

My mom taught me how to sew. I just loved playing with the fabric scraps left from her dressmaking. I used to wrap them around my Barbie doll and hand sew them to her ….such exotic creations! My first authentic quilting class was at Glad Creations in Minneapolis in 1983. A friend from work talked me into it. The rest is history!

Now for the winners…I just put all of the comments together and used a number generator. Please send me your mailing address!

Amy C
I’m still learning how to quilt. I started a couple of years ago. I’ve learned the basics but now I am challenging myself to find ways to improve my skills. I love being challenged.

Mary on Lake Pulaski
I started quilting on my own when I first got married in 1972 just because I needed some warm blankets. From there, I picked up books and magazines and taught myself.

Shawna
I made my first quilt when I was a kid. My mom helped me finish it into a quilt. It was a pinwheel design with poly sashing between the the blocks. I still have it today. I have always been a crafty person. I think that comes from my Grandma.

Badlandsquilts
I took a hand quilting class @ Eagle Creek a few years ago and have started machine quilting on my own in the last year.

Kathy in Wisconsin
I learned to quilt in 1980 when a friend/neighbor encouraged me to take an adult ed. class with her at our local elementary school. It was within walking distance and we wouldn’t even be spending money on gas to go. Her quilting has slowed down in the last 30 years, but mine is just more passionate all the time!

Thanks to everyone who commented! What a wide range of favorite projects…scrappy quilts, mysteries, small projects and so many of you give almost everything away!

If the winners could send me their mailing addresses, I’ll send the magazines right away.

Kathie L from Allentown
My favorite projects are quilts to give to family members to mark milestones – graduations, birthdays, etc. I get to enjoy making them and enjoy giving them.

Sequana
My favorite kind of quilt project is one that uses a bunch of fabrics from one collection. I love looking at them all while I work.
One I just finished like that is a pattern that used almost all the fabrics from Laura Gunn’s Lantern Bloom collection. Every block I made just seemed so much FUN and so beautiful.

Shirley
I love doing mystery quilts as you don’t know what you have until it’s done!
