Hi, I’m Celine Perkins and I design and publish quilt patterns for Perkins Dry Goods. Welcome to my corner of the Quilting Universe!
My mom taught me to sew when I was about 7 years old. I loved nothing better than to dig through her scrap bag for treasures. It was 1983 when I took my first real quilting class – hand piecing a sampler quilt at Glad Creations in Minneapolis, MN. I quickly realized that quilting was something I could be passionate about. The next class used rotary cutting techniques; I loved the quick cutting and piecing made possible by these tools. I was totally smitten. This seems like ancient history now doesn’t it?
I was trained as an occupational therapist and worked in healthcare for 16 years before changing careers.
I have been designing and teaching since 2000. I love working with the many different learning styles my student’s have in the classes that I teach. It’s wonderful to watch as students, whether new or old quilters, “get” something new. It keeps me coming back!
I would love to come and teach for your group! I present programs for quilt guilds, teach in quilt shops and at quilting retreats I am available throughout the year. Please email or call for more information.
Perkins Dry Goods was established in 2002. As I thought about what to call my pattern company, I discovered that my grandmother, who was a quilter, worked in a Dry Goods store in Center, MO back in the 1950’s. Perkins Dry Goods seemed fitting name.
Even though Perkins Dry Goods patterns tend to be more traditional, they work with modern and bright fabrics too. My goal has always been to write patterns that a new quilter could achieve yet still appeal to a variety of skill levels. Most all of my patterns are rotary cut and machine pieced.
