There are two great quilts in this quilt along both based on strips and Courthouse steps. Pick your favorite….I’m trying to decide. Maybe I’ll make both of them!
Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Sampler Sew Along
Welcome to the Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Sampler Sew Along!
Thanks for stopping by to see my block!
The 100 Blocks Sampler is a collection of quilt blocks from different issues of the Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks magazines. They have redrafted the blocks from 12″ down to 6″ and there are a variety of techniques used. This block is from Volume #2.
In and Out
Here are some fun options for how to set this block – add borders and you have a table runner!
Sash between blocks and border #1 is cut 1-1/4″ and Border #2 is cut 2-1/4″; the runner finishes about 29-1/2″ x 11-1/2″.
Or make a few more blocks (12 shown here) and you have a table topper. If you add 3″ borders, it will measure about 23″ x 23″.
Welcome Splendid Sampler Quilters!
I’ve got a super quick fun block for you to add to your Splendid Sampler collection. It’s called Simple Simon.
My story involves my constant desire to figure out an easier way. If you ever watched the television show “McGyver”, that’s what some of my family members call me – my efforts are not limited to quilting :-)! You’ll see how this splendid little block starts out as a nine patch and emerges as Simple Simon.
First we are going to start out with a quick tutorial on seam allowance. Yes, this is an easy block, but seam allowance is still really important.
Lets get started!
How to get a Splendid perfect scant 1/4″ Seam Allowance
What is a scant 1/4″? It’s important in quilting because it is just shy of a full 1/4″. It accommodates the thickness of the thread used to sew the seam.
You need 2 – 2″ x 2″ squares of scrap fabric.
Pat and Jane have done an amazing job of organizing this event.
There are 83 designers. And 100 different blocks will be revealed through the year.
This is epic!!
The first block will be revealed on Valentine’s Day. Blocks will be released twice a week. Different colorways will be featured plus different settings for the finished blocks. Easy to keep up with, right?
